With the support of the Smyth County Hospital Health Trust, the Sheriff’s Office has implemented a “Prescription RX Drug Drop” program. A drop box is located in the lobby of the Smyth County Sheriff’s Office that is accessible to the public 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday – Friday. This box is under 24 hour surveillance.
This provides a safe, simple, secure and environmentally friendly way to collect unwanted or expired household medication, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, pet medications, prescription patches, prescription ointments, and vitamins. These drugs unfortunately have become the target of theft and misuse, oftentimes by people who have access to the residence.

Items NOT accepted: Needles, Inhalers, Glass Containers, Aerosol Cans, Thermometers, Lotions, Liquid, and Hydrogen Peroxide
Preparing Items for Disposal in the Drop-Box:
All items are to be in a sealed container, zip-lock bag, envelope, etc.
